Understanding the Interactive Tools

The Texas Math Solution lesson Materials offer two sets of interactive tools. The table below outlines the use and functionality of each tool.

The first set of tools is located in the top-right corner, opposite the title of the assignment.


 

The second set of tools is located on the left-side of the screen just below the title of the assignment.


Note: The second set of tools will appear once you have moved off the title screen for the assignment.
 


The chart lists each of the interactive tools and explains how to use it.
 

Tool Icon How to Use the Tool
  1. Click the Mark Up icon to enable.
  2. Use your mouse (or a trackpad) to select the text you wish to mark up.
  3. From the pop-up that appears, you can choose how to mark up the selected text (from left to right):
    • Change the highlight color.
    • Underline the selected text.
    • Place a box around the selected text.
    • Add a note.
    • Delete the markup.
  4. Click the Mark Up icon to disable.
  1. Click the Color icon to access the Color selection pop-up.
  2. Choose a color scheme from the list of options.
  3. Click Close.
  1. Click the Full Screen icon to expand to a “full screen” view.
  2. Click theFull Screen icon again to exit the full screen view.
  1. Click the Font icon to enable.
  2. From the pop-up that appears, you can choose how the interactive fonts (e.g., buttons) appear on the page:
    • Small: makes the interactive fonts small.
    • Medium: makes the interactive fonts medium-sized.
    • Large: makes the interactive fonts large.
    • Bold: makes all text bold.
  3. Click the Font icon to disable.
  1. Click the Guideline icon to enable.
  2. An unlocked guideline will appear on the screen.
  3. Click on and drag the guideline to where you would like it to appear on the screen.
  4. Click the Lock icon to freeze the placement of the guideline.

    Note: To unfreeze the guideline, simply click the Lock icon again.
  5. Click the Guideline icon to disable.
  1. Click the Sticky Notes icon to enable.
  2. Move the cursor over the text, which will change to a Sticky Note icon.
  3. Move the Sticky Note icon to a location in the text where you wish to place a note, then left-click to place the Sticky Note.
  4. From the pop-up text box that appears, click to enter a note using your keyboard.

    Note: You have the ability to bold, italicize, and underline text, as well as create a bulleted list.
  5. Click Save to save your note (or Cancel to remove the note).

    Note: The “1” highlighted in black verifies that your note was Saved.
  6. After saving the note, you have the option to add additional notes or you can Edit or Delete the existing note.
  7. Click the Trashcan icon to Delete all notes.

    Note: The notes will disappear once you disable, then re-enable the Sticky Notes icon.
  8. Click the Sticky Notes icon to disable.
  1. Click the Eliminator icon to enable.
  2. Move the cursor over the answer choices, which will change to an X icon.
  3. Move the X icon over an answer choice you wish to “eliminate”, then left-click to strikethrough that answer.

    Note: To undo an elimination, simply click on the line.
  4. Click the Eliminator icon to disable.
  1. Click the Basic Calculator icon to enable.
  2. The Basic Calculator pop-up will appear. 
     
    Note: You can resize the calculator by clicking and dragging in (or out) from each side/corner.
  3. Use the calculator as you would any other online or actual calculator.
  4. When you are done with the calculator, click the X in the upper right-hand corner to close the window.
  1. Click the Scientific Calculator icon to enable.
  2. The Scientific Calculator pop-up will appear.

    Note: You can resize the calculator by clicking and dragging in (or out) from each side/corner.
  3. Use the calculator as you would any other online or actual Scientific Calculator.
  4. When you are done with the calculator, click the X in the upper right-hand corner to close the window.
  1. Click the Graphing Calculator icon to enable.
  2. The Graphing Calculator pop-up will appear.

    Note: You can resize the calculator by clicking and dragging in (or out) from each side/corner.
  3. Use the calculator as you would any other online or actual Graphing Calculator.
  4. When you are done with the calculator, click the X in the upper right-hand corner to close the window.

OR

  1. Click the Customary Ruler (or Metric Ruler) icon to enable.
  2. The ruler will appear on the screen.
  3. You can click on and drag the ruler anywhere on the screen.
  4. You can also rotate the ruler by clicking on and dragging the  icon.
  5. Both rulers also have the ability to “snap” into place for convenience.
    • Horizontal “Snap” - click the  icon to snap the ruler into the horizontal position.
    • Vertical “Snap” - click the  icon to snap the ruler into the vertical position.
  6. Click the Customary Ruler (or Metric Ruler) icon to disable.
  1. Click the Protractor icon to enable.
  2. The protractor will appear on the screen.
  3. You can click on and drag the protractor anywhere on the screen.
  4. You can also rotate the protractor by clicking on and dragging the  icon.
  5. The protractor also has the ability to “snap” into place for convenience.
    • Click the  icon to snap the protractor 90 degrees clockwise. It will snap to one of four positions:

      Starting Position:


      Position 2:


      Position 3:


      Position 4:

      Note: The protractor will only snap to the positions shown above. It does not snap from an angled position to 90 degrees clockwise from that position.
  6. Click the Protractor icon to disable.
