The brand new Carnegie Learning Middle School Math Solution textbooks are in classrooms and we're asking what teachers have to say about the new book (and its new look!)
We’re so proud of the teachers we work with who are living the LONG + LIVE + MATH spirit in their classrooms every day. This year, many of them are using the brand new Carnegie Learning Middle School Math Solution textbook, and they’ll be sharing their experiences with us throughout the fall!
Amy Paulikaitis, Frances B. McCord School
Amy Paulikaitis teaches 6th grade at Frances B. McCord School in Burbank, Illinois. She's pretty fearless: she's been teaching for more than 15 years and has also been skydiving! (The teaching is braver than the skydiving, in our opinion.)
"One thing I like about Carnegie Learning is that it encourages students to work together and communicate with each other. Instead of relying solely on me to assist them, they work as a team to solve their problems. I also like how the questions in the text really get the students thinking, and how some questions feed off the previous ones.
As for the students, they also like the fact that they can often work together to solve problems. They're not used to seeing math in the form of sentences. It requires a lot of reading comprehension on their part, so it helps if they can lean on each other to decode what the question is actually saying."
"This is my second year using Carnegie Learning and though I was more than satisfied with the previous version, I am truly excited to experience some of the new changes they have made this year. I also cannot wait to get my students routinely working on MATHia. It was a huge success in my classroom last year, and it really differentiated to meet the needs of each individual student."
