Carnegie Learning Unveils the Next Generation of Cognitive Tutor Software

Carnegie Learning has a commitment to continually improving all of our products to provide enhanced value to the students and educators who use them.  We are very pleased to announce the 2008-2009 Cognitive Tutor software to our current customers.  This year’s version includes five significant feature enhancements:

  • Flexible sequencing allows administrators to build a custom curriculum to meet the special needs of districts or schools. Units can be re-ordered, added and deleted, and new sequences named and published for use in the classroom.

  • Interactive Examples deliver on-screen, step-by-step instruction so that students can see and engage in examples that promote conceptual understanding of problems being solved.

  • Automated Assessment delivers pre- and post-tests that automatically tie to custom-sequenced curricula. The pretest may be configured to be diagnostic, in which case results are used to set pacing for students in the instructional software.

  • Enhanced Administrative Reports enable administrators to monitor and analyze progress and efficacy of the program at multiple levels including class, building, and district. Reports can filter by curriculum and date range, and may be exported to Adobe PDF and Microsoft Excel for distribution.

  • New lessons in each unit provide enhanced instructional and conceptual math content

“The enhancements in our 2008 software are the result of customer requirements, ongoing research into how students learn, and the increasing requirement for schools to provide differentiated instruction,” said Dennis Ciccone, CEO of Carnegie Learning, Inc. “We are extremely proud to deliver a solution that educators need, given the increasingly rigorous requirements for research-based, results-driven curricula mandated by states and districts across the country.”

The software is available immediately for Summer School or intervention implementations, or for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Carnegie Learning Increases Student Test Scores in Kentucky

The Commonwealth of Kentucky is committed to improving math education through multiple initiatives, including a math pilot program in six districts. One of these districts is Madison County Schools, where Carnegie Learning’s Bridge to Algebra and Algebra I solutions have been used since fall 2006. In January, the Kentucky Math Pilot program released data related to student scores on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). The results indicate that ITBS scores of students in Kentucky using Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor software increased almost a full grade level over the course of an academic year. ITBS scores of students using Carnegie Learning were almost twice as high as the ITBS scores of students using programs from any other curricula provider.

“Since selecting Carnegie Learning’s math programs to address Algebra Readiness, our middle school math students have met Adequate Yearly Progress for the first time in all the subgroups,” said Madison County Schools Interim Superintendent, Tommy Floyd. “We have seen major improvements and significant results in a short period of time, and are confident that our students are better prepared for Algebra with the individualized approach of Carnegie Learning. The enhancements in this 2008 software promise to make this an even richer, smarter experience for our students and our teachers.”
