Carnegie Learning® Software Called Best Mathematics Instructional Solution

Leader in Math Education Wins Third CODiE Award

PITTSBURGH, PA, May 11, 2009 – Carnegie Learning® Adaptive Math is the Best Mathematics Instructional Solution according to the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), which presented the company with a 24th Annual CODiE Award last week in San Francisco.

This is the third CODiE Award given to Carnegie Learning in recognition for the delivery of effective middle school and high school math software solutions. At the core of Carnegie Learning® Adaptive Math Solutions is the Cognitive Tutor® software which is developed around an artificial intelligence model that identifies weaknesses in each student's mastery of mathematical concepts and personalizes instruction. Cognitive Tutor® curricula includes Bridge to Algebra, an algebra-readiness program for middle school students, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II programs for secondary students. The company’s suite of products also includes a Developmental Math curriculum for higher education students.

"Now in its 24th year, the CODiE Awards continue to recognize those companies providing the best new technology products and services across a broad array of industries," said Ken Wasch, SIIA President. "In addition, its winners are a prolific testament to the power of technology to deliver innovative solutions to businesses and consumers. SIIA warmly congratulates all of the winners and nominees of the CODiE Awards, whose innovation is essential for continuing America's leadership in the global knowledge economy."

Cognitive Tutor® software provides students with highly individualized, self-paced math instruction. These research-based programs are implemented as Response to Intervention (RtI) and supplemental math programs, as well as core, full-year courses that prepare students with 21st Century learning skills. Based on more than two decades of cognitive science research at Carnegie Mellon University, the curricula provide rigorous instructional resources, ongoing formative assessment, and Professional Development programs that help both students and teachers to succeed.

“We are extremely honored to be recognized for our achievements by the SIIA, particularly this year, as great attention and expectation are focused on the delivery of improved, effective instruction in this country,” said Dennis Ciccone, Chief Executive Officer of Carnegie Learning, Inc. “We are pleased to be among the companies delivering curricula that advance education reform and create replicable, long-lasting results in mathematics understanding and performance.”

Carnegie Learning® Math Solutions are used by more than 500,000 students in nearly 2600 schools across the United States, including not only district-wide programs in the Miami-Dade Schools, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Atlanta Public Schools, and The Recovery School District in New Orleans, but also state-wide initiatives in Kentucky, Alaska, Georgia, Hawaii, and Louisiana.
